"Interior"
16"x20" Oil on Canvas
NFS

Here is an interior view from inside my apartment. In this painting, is this painting hanging above the fish tank. In the fish tank the water swirls around like Vangogh's air in Starry Night. There are two fish. One fish is floating on its back struggling with it's life and the other fish gazes back at the viewer of the painting. This is also one of my earlier paintings. As a child I had fish and mice as pets; a reoccurring theme in my paintings.

"Still Life: Plant, Flowers, Jar and Book"
16"x20" Oil on Canvas
NFS

This still life is one of the first oil paintings that I have done on canvas. Here I began to experiment with color, and various brush styles. As you can see the daub pattern technique had carried over from my decorative chair painting. The blue and white jar on the other hand was done with a with a softer more gentle approach. I am learning that juxtaposing two different brush styles can be a good thing.

"Rothko Like Mouse Ornaments"

Many years later, after I painted the "Rothko" like chair, I made and painted various mouse ornaments. It just goes to show how much the ideas of others can influence one's art work for the future. In the same way that "Rothko" like chair had enhanced that woman's sun room, so will these unusual mouse ornaments enhance our Christmas Tree year after year.

"Rothko" like Chair

"Rothko Like Chair"

When I first started painting, I painted old Chairs. A vibrant painted chair can really brighten up a room and also become a good conversation piece. This chair was a commissioned piece I did for my friend's aunt. She had a wonderful sunroom with clay tile and many small modern paintings on the wall. She asked me if I could paint her chair in a 'Rothko' like manner. I was intriqued with the challenge and couldn't wait to start. Here is the end result. She loved it and I wished I could have it for my own home.
